Over 100 players both local and foreign have enlisted for this weekend's Zambia Ladies Open Stroke-play Championship set for Bonanza Golf Club in Chongwe. The tournament is expected to gobble a total of K282,000, with Mal's Properties pumping in K20,000 as silver sponsors. In an interview with Zed Sport Yesterday, Zambia Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) president Carol Joynt said that this year's tournament has a new dimension because it is the first World Amateur Ranking (WAGR) tournament ever to conducted in Zambia where we recently subscribed to. Joynt added that the union is far from meeting its budget and appealed to the business community to come on board and help raise the funds required to successfully host the tournament. "Most loyalties are difficult to explain, and our loyalty to golf is no exception. It has an invisible source of inspiration that continues to hold us together as we advance to a common ideal, which is excellence," she said. The tournament has attracted players from Malawi, Uganda, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania, with hosts Zambia fielding over 50 players. According to the information availed to Zed Sport, Tanzanian Loveness Mungure was the first to arrive in the country on Sunday, with the rest of the international players expected to arrive today and tomorrow respectively. The Zambian contingent has Lucy Waddell, Cora Waddeli, Hilda Edwards, Prudence Muchinouta, Carol Joynt, Bwalya Chileya, Nan Kennedy, Enala Lombe, Namatama Munalula, Matilda Achiume, Connie Karuku, Kasuba Sikamo, Nakamba Simutowe all from Lusaka Golf Club. Ndola will be represented by Felistus Ziba, Towela Lengwe, Rosemary Mulauzi, Catherine Mwamba, Margaret Kabwe, Maiwase Julie Sakala, with Angie Marie Bwalya, Exilda April Ndaba, and Joyce Henderson representing Mufulira. The tournament takes from the 02nd of this week to Sunday, the 4th of June 2023 as the 1st awaits confirmation if they will host their press conference on Thursday before the tournament.
