In a remarkable initiative, the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts has solidified a transformative partnership with DMI St. Eugene University, heralding the provision of 1,700 degree scholarships. These scholarships are designed to empower vulnerable youths, facilitating their pursuit of tertiary education. Notably, priority will be extended to those excelling in sports, arts, and all youths aged 18 to 35. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that was officially signed today was graced by the presence of Hon. Elvis Nkandu, the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts. Accompanying him were esteemed dignitaries such as Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe, Director of Sports John Zulu, Chief Planner Audrey Hampekema, and Chief Sports Development Officer Wesley Chikwamu. Speaking on the occasion, Hon. Nkandu expressed his enthusiasm for this pivotal development, stating, "Today marks a significant milestone as we expand our educational offerings to encompass degree programs. The timing couldn't be more fitting. Our aim is to harmonize all our educational initiatives under the ministry's umbrella, fostering cohesion with this newly unveiled program. We extend our gratitude to Sister Fatima for the partnership, which will enable our youth to cultivate their talents." Sister Fatima Mary, representing DMI St. Eugene University, articulated the institution's joy over the culmination of a year-long dialogue with the Ministry, leading to the MOU's fruition. "Recognising the pivotal roles that both the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Arts and DMI - St. Eugene University play in our nation's progress, we firmly believe that collaboration can yield mutual benefits on a national scale. This alliance aims to fortify the educational landscape for our youth, women, and men in the realms of sports and arts, nurturing a brighter future. The primary objective is to furnish a platform that provides scholarship recipients with a conducive learning environment, enabling them to attain formal university qualifications in their chosen fields," Sister Fatima Mary emphasised. The MOU, set to span a duration of five years, holds the potential for renewal. This news heralds a promising era for young individuals who yearn for higher education opportunities.
