Cecilia Tresha is anticipating a stiff contest from Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) general secretary Musunka Silungwe but insists she is equal to the task of beating him on Saturday's elective annual general meeting. The rugby fraternity will converge on Kabwe to usher in new office bearers for the next four years. Club mates Tresha and Silungwe are in a two-horse race. Both candidates are Powerhouse Lusaka Rugby Club members. However, Tresha has been nominated by Lusaka and seconded by Green Eagles while Red Arrows nominated Silungwe and Roan seconded him. Tresha said in an interview yesterday that chances of becoming general secretary are 50-50. "My chances are 50-50, I do not expect it to be an easy walk in the park, especially since I am challenging an incumbent general secretary. However, I am up for it," she said. Tresha said she has over 15 years experience in rugby administration. Silungwe said: "The ZRU council members know very well what they want, and in doing so I am confident that I have been tested by joining the union when nobody wanted to stay. I am more concerned about Councilors who don't know me and what I stand for." Silungwe was appointed general secretary in 2021 after Chileshe Bweupe resigned. Other candidates vying for office are President Clement Sinkamba, who is being challenged by former general secretary Bweupe. The position of vice president has attracted three candidates incumbent Tom Tobela'Chani, Jeremiah Manda, and George Funga.
