The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has encouraged the men's and women's national hockey teams to maintain their focus, aiming to become the first team sports to qualify for the Olympics after Zambia's men's and women's football teams. During the send-off event held at OYDC Zambia for both teams heading to the Olympic qualifiers in South Africa, NOCZ's treasurer, Victor Banda, expressed their significant investment in team sports and their commitment to investing further in the teams that secure qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics. During the same event, OYDC Zambia, in partnership with Cavendish University, donated jerseys worth K58,000 for both the men's and women's teams. Victor Banda emphasized their investment in various sports, including team sports like hockey, handball, volleyball, and individual sports such as athletics. They are delighted with the progress and are committed to supporting all Olympic sports. He also assured other sports federations that qualify for the Olympics that NOCZ will invest in their preparation for the games, emphasizing the importance of hard work for athletes to achieve Olympic success. Dr. Frederick Chitangala, the director of OYDC Zambia, acknowledged the difficulty of securing sports sponsorship in Zambia. Despite these challenges, OYDC and partners, including Cavendish University, came together to provide kits for the Hockey Association, supporting the Olympic Qualifiers. Elvis Bwalya, the general secretary of the Hockey Association, expressed gratitude to OYDC Zambia for the new jerseys. He highlighted the significance of the jerseys as motivation for the players and thanked OYDC and other sponsors for their support, emphasizing its importance to the association. The Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers are scheduled to take place from 25th October to 5th November in South Africa.
