In an afternoon filled with vibrant enthusiasm, the Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Strategic Plan review forum drew to a close. The colourful closing ceremony was presided over by the Provincial Minister for the Southern Province, Honourable Credo Nanjuwa, marking a momentous conclusion to this significant event. The forum's primary objective was to forge strategies that would shape the future landscape of sports in Southern Africa. It successfully attracted sports administrators from a spectrum of countries within the region, including Malawi, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, South Africa, Lesotho, and Mozambique. During his address, Mr. Nanjuwa emphasized the importance of continuous implementation and review of the region's sports strategy. He stressed that the region and its member countries must collectively overcome challenges and obstacles in sports development. "In this regard, it calls for all stakeholders to thoroughly monitor the execution of the vision, mission, priority areas, and programs within the context of the revised strategy and theory of change. Where we encounter setbacks in the implementation process, let us analyze and readjust our efforts, thereby staying on course to achieve our set targets by 2028. The outcomes of this engagement should help us succeed in achieving the various milestones we have set for the region," he affirmed. AUSC Region 5, as the sports arm of the African Union, is committed to using sports as a catalyst for peace, integration, and unity in Africa. It recognizes that sports can bring people together, transcending boundaries of colour, economic status, politics, class, and gender. The forum, a collaborative effort between AUSC Region 5 and the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts, took place from 27th September 2023 at the Radisson Blu Mosi – Oa- Tunya Livingstone Resort. It was a pivotal moment where stakeholders came together to chart a visionary course for the future of sports in Southern Africa.
