Abraham Chaya represented Zambia at the inaugural 2022 Africa Hockey 5s Championships, where the Zambia Women's Hockey 5s team secured the silver medal, earning their ticket to the Oman 2024 Hockey 5s World Cup. In recognition of his exceptional umpiring skills, the Africa Hockey Federation has appointed him to represent Zambia as an umpire at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Qualifiers. These qualifiers are scheduled to take place next month in South Africa. Joining Chaya are Rita Katoka and Valentine Ziba, who have been designated as the Umpire and Technical Officer, respectively. The African Hockey Road to Paris 2024 Championships will take place at the University of Pretoria Hockey Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa, spanning from October 29th to November 5th, 2023. The tournament will feature the participation of eight men's teams and seven women's teams, including Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Zambia, and the host nation, South Africa. The Zambia Hockey team aims to make history by securing qualification for their first-ever senior Olympics, a significant milestone following their successful participation in the junior Olympics in both 2014 and 2018.
