As the countdown to the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers Games intensifies, both the men's and women's national hockey teams are leaving no stone unturned in their training efforts. The teams are gearing up for the crucial qualifiers, set to take place in South Africa. From October 29th to November 5th, 2023, Johannesburg will host the eagerly anticipated matches, featuring fierce competition among countries including Egypt, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, and the host nation, South Africa. The stakes are high, as the top teams in each gender category will secure direct berths in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Leading the charge for the men's team is Coach Elvis Bwalya, while Coach Floyd Chomba is at the helm of the women's team. Focused training sessions are in full swing at the OYDC Zambia hockey field. A motivating visit from Dr. Frederick Chitangala, the Chief Executive Officer of OYDC Zambia, boosted the players' morale as they embarked on their rigorous training regimen. Dr. Chitangala emphasized the importance of remaining dedicated and ensuring that their training translates into positive outcomes when they compete in South Africa's high-stakes games. He further highlighted the center's unwavering commitment to supporting hockey and expressed enthusiasm about the athletes' growth. Dr. Chitangala noted with excitement that many players in both teams have benefited from the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge, a program managed by the center to nurture young, talented athletes across various sports disciplines. In addition to the experience gained from participating in the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, and the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dr. Chitangala is optimistic that the two hockey teams are well-prepared to secure their spots in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Their journey exemplifies not only dedication to the sport but also the spirit of perseverance and aspiration.
