In a call to action, the government has urged Region Five of the African Union Sport Council (AUSA) to strive towards becoming a powerhouse in African sports as part of their reviewed strategic plan. The Southern Province Minister, Credo Nanjuwa, delivered this message during the conclusion of the mid-term strategic plan meeting held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Livingstone. Minister Nanjuwa emphasised that Southern Africa has the potential to lead the continent in the realm of sports. He highlighted the importance of such meetings and their successful implementation in achieving this goal. He stated, "The hard work and dedication put into the review process should not go to waste. Your determined efforts will undoubtedly result in more medals in the future and, most importantly, serve as an invaluable source of inspiration for the millions of citizens in our region." Furthermore, Minister Nanjuwa conveyed that the Council of Ministers would lobby for support from governments in the region to host more sporting events, thereby elevating the competitiveness of the region's athletes and solidifying its status as an African sports powerhouse. He expressed hope that the delegates had also addressed issues where sports played a vital role in national development and in shaping the future of the youth. Minister Nanjuwa emphasised the critical role of sports in the region's development agenda, highlighting its potential as a catalyst for economic, social, and national development. In light of rising challenges, including youth delinquency, drug abuse, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Minister Nanjuwa stressed the importance of sports contributing to finding solutions and harnessing demographic dividends. He concluded by reiterating the government's commitment to utilising the power of sports as a driver of positive change and development.
