Redson Lukwesa has been dropped from the Zambia rugby team due to injury and will miss the Rugby Africa 2023 Baths Trophy Challenge in Kenya. The Bathes Trophy Challenge competition will run from 22nd to 30th April 2023 at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi. The event will also act as a qualifying tournament to the World Rugby Junior Trophy to be held at the same venue from 15th to 30th July 2023. In an interview, director of rugby Noble Chisanga said that Lukwesa's injury was a blow to the team but that a replacement had been found. "We have one injured player, Redson Lukwesa who has since been dropped. It is a big blow for the team but a suitable replacement has been found," Chisanga said. Lukwesa, a full-back from Mufulira Leopards, managed 10 points after scoring two tries at last year's event in three matches he featured in against Ivory Coast, Madagascar, and Tunisia. Chisanga has however said that despite Lukwesa's blow, the team was all set and ready to compete in Nairobi.
