With just 12 days remaining on the countdown to the 2023 Olympic Qualifiers in South Africa, Zambia's men's and women's hockey teams are eagerly preparing to secure their first-ever senior Olympic qualification, having previously participated in the Junior Olympics. Coaches Elvis Bwalya and Floyd Chomba have meticulously named their provisional squads. The event is scheduled to take place from 29th October to 5th November 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa, where teams will battle for the coveted ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the men's category, the path to Olympic qualification is clear: the gold medal winners in the qualifiers will secure an automatic berth. However, for the runners-up, there's an additional hurdle to overcome – the FIH playoffs. It's a challenge the Zambian men are gearing up for as they face tough opponents in Pool B, featuring Egypt, Ghana, and Kenya. On the other hand, the women's journey to Paris is more competitive. Only the gold medal winners in the qualifiers will earn the right to represent Zambia at the 2024 Olympics. The women's team finds themselves placed in Pool B, alongside strong contenders Ghana, Kenya, and Namibia. Hockey lovers and fans across the globe will have the opportunity to witness the excitement as all matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
