In a Week 14 showdown at the Zamsure Sports Complex in Lusaka, the Midlands Basketball Association (MBA) defending champions, the Munali Suns, faced a tough challenge as they clashed with the Napsa Hurricanes. The result was a thrilling encounter that ended in a 69-61 victory for the Hurricanes. Despite this loss, the Suns continue to maintain their position at the top of the MBA standings with 25 points, just ahead of Green Buffaloes, thanks to their superior goal aggregate. The Hurricanes, now standing third with 23 points, share their position with Matero Magic, who round out the top four due to a slightly inferior goal aggregate. The game kicked off with the Suns showing promise as Titus Mapani, Travis Ndama, Harrison Banda, and Jarred Mweetwa led the offensive charge, securing a 20-15 lead in the first quarter. However, the second quarter proved to be a closely contested battle, with the Hurricanes narrowly taking the lead at 37-36. The Hurricanes continued to exert their dominance in the third quarter, led by George Mungalu, Obi Musongo, Antonio Mutumbe, and Joe Kamamba, winning the quarter 53-48. Although the Suns, led by Chipo Musongo, mounted a spirited comeback effort in the final quarter, the Hurricanes managed to withstand the pressure, ultimately sealing their victory with a final score of 69-61. Coach Mwape Kansolo of the Hurricanes expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, saying, "I'm really happy with the way my boys played against the league leaders. They put up a very good fight against the Suns, who are not an easy team. So, we keep fighting going forward." Suns coach Harry Chansa acknowledged the difficulty of the loss, stating, "This is a very tough loss to accept given the way we played, but I believe it was a game that could have gone either way, and the Hurricanes emerged victorious. This game is behind us, and we are looking ahead to our next fixture." In other MBA action, Matero crushed Red Arrows 84-59, while Green Buffaloes thumped Bulldogs 87-66. Matero Warriors also delivered a strong performance, defeating Hawks 84-58, and the University of Zambia Pacers secured an 82-77 victory over Lusaka City Council Looters.
