2nd June 2023, Several Athletes converged at OYDC Zambia - Sports Development Centre to attend a two-day workshop aimed at empowering athletes to excel financially. The two-day workshop organized by Emerging Sports Leaders Programme and Girls Sports Mentorship led by Sombwa Knox Musunsa and Samantha Miyanda respectively has seen athletes from different sports disciplines participating. National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) president Alfred Foloko, recently arrived in the country after attending a training in Botswana which was aimed at promoting local Athletes. President Foloko will see young athletes enjoy the opportunity to become entrepreneurs as they will be equipped with the knowledge they need to start up their businesses such as owning poultry and other lucrative businesses. Speaking to the athletes earlier in the day, NOCZ Alfred commended organizers for conducting the training which will come to a close today around 17:00hrs. Apart from Sports, The president has expressed the importance of venturing into lucrative businesses which can help them generate revenue to sustain their livelihoods. Foloko later narrated his story to inspire athletes on how farming helped him to be where he is today not only as an athlete but a well-respected sports administrator. "Initiatives such as the workshop being conducted more athletes will take a keen interest in raising the much-needed money to support them through their sports careers which their respective associations are unable to afford due to financial constraints. Emerging Sports Leaders Founder, Sombwa Musunsa who is a Zambian based in Botswana has expressed delight at the turnout of athletes attending the workshop adding that Simunchembu Agriprise is an Agro Business, offering athletes with free poultry lessons, mentorship, and a wide experience of how to start and sustain a business. Over 20 athletes are in attendance and are ready to share the acquired knowledge they learned with their friends, family, and colleagues.
