Commonwealth and African champion Muzala Simukonga is optimistic about competing at the Budapest 2023 World Athletics Championships, which is scheduled to take place from August 19 to 27. In an interview with Times yesterday, Simukonga expressed his happiness after receiving funding from the Ministry of Sports to undergo treatment for an injury sustained during the Silesia Wanda Diamond League race in Poland last month. "I would like to update the nation about my injury, which I sustained during my last meet. I would like to inform the nation that on July 31st, 2023, we received the money for my treatment from the Ministry of Sports, and we shall now start the treatment," he said. On July 19th, 2023, while racing against the best in the 400m category, Simukonga, who holds the world lead time at 43.91 seconds, slowed down after just 100m and left the track in tears while clutching his hamstring. "In as much as we don't know how long the treatment and process will take, we hope that I will be treated as soon as possible with the hopes and prayers of getting better and back on track for training before the World championships later this month," the Adidas Athlete added.
