Zambian Chess player Candidate Master, William Kolomwe, has received a special invitation to participate in the upcoming Negombo International Chess Festival, scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka from August 26th to 30th, 2023. Kolomwe's consistent and impressive track record in international tournaments, dating back to 2017, has rightly earned him this coveted invitation. Notable accomplishments include securing gold and silver in the 2019 and 2018 editions of the same tournament respectively, clinching a bronze in the esteemed Asian Grand Circuit in 2018, and emerging as the champion in the Africa Amateur Chess Championship held in 2017. The Chess Federation of Zambia has informed our media team this morning that they are pleased with William's invitation and want to encourage other chess players to work hard in order to represent Zambia on the international stage. "It is good to see that such invitations keep coming up, especially for Zambian chess players to make their mark internationally and represent the country. Others should also follow this example and strive to improve themselves," the Federation said. The Negombo Chess Festival is one of the premier chess events in Sri Lanka, attracting top-tier players from around the world. In addition to its significance as a platform for competitive chess, the festival is a crucial ranking event. Furthermore, victorious players in this tournament will secure a spot to participate in the Afro-Asian Games of 2024.
