Over 100 teams hailing from 50 different countries are gearing up to participate in the 3rd Intercontinental Online Chess Championship for Prisoners. This three-day event is set to commence on October 11th and promises to be an engaging competition. The championship is an integral component of the Chess for Freedom Program, which was initiated two years ago with the aim of utilizing chess as a tool for education and social inclusion within prison systems worldwide. Chess enthusiasts and spectators worldwide can look forward to watching the action unfold, as the 3rd Intercontinental Online Chess Championship for Prisoners will be broadcasted on the FIDE YouTube channel. The event will feature live commentary by renowned individuals in the chess community, including WGM Almira Skripchenko, IM Michael Rahal, and WGM Keti Tsatsalashvili. However, the Chess Federation of Zambia has conveyed the regrettable news to our reporter that Zambia will not be able to participate in this year's championship. The decision was attributed to late preparations and the submission of player entries, with some participants having recently engaged in another championship. Despite this setback, the championship remains a symbol of the global reach and impact of chess in diverse communities.
