Samuel Mumba has successfully defended his title as the junior chess champion, with Raphael Sharon securing the second position in the boys' category. In the girls' category, Naomi Mwale emerged as the champion, and Victoria Mweetwa secured the second position. Raphael Mulenga, the Secretary General of the Chess Federation of Zambia, confirmed these results, announcing that the four junior champions in both categories will represent the country at the Africa Youth Championship, scheduled to take place in Mauritania from 4th to 12th December 2023. As for the seniors, they will compete in the All-Africa Games as part of their journey towards the 2024 Paris Olympics. The winners of the open and girls' championships will earn the right to participate in the World Junior Chess Championships next year. In the open championship, the top three players, determined by tiebreaks, will be awarded the International Master title. Additionally, the first-placed player will earn a norm towards the Grandmaster title. In the girls' championship, the top three players, following tiebreaks, will be recognized with the Woman International Master title, and the first-placed player will earn a norm towards the Woman Grandmaster title.
