The Zambia Tennis Association (ZTA) expresses concern over the insufficient government backing that is affecting the development of tennis in the country. ZTA Professional Coordinator, Chilito Zulu said the government has not been on the ground to empower other sports in the country as they are overshadowed by football. “Most of government’s focus has been on football and it is only now when they have given us hope that they will look into sports like Tennis,” he said. However, Mr. Zulu noted the commendable strides the sport has taken in its growth over the years. “Tennis is improving every day and we have a lot of upcoming players who have shown us that they have what it takes to represent the nation,” he added. Zulu expressed hope for a positive change, anticipating increased government backing to fuel the continued growth of tennis in the upcoming year.
