The 2023 Mika International Tennis Championships have officially begun. The Ministry of Youth and Sports commended the Mika Group of Companies for their significant contribution to sports development in the country. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Kangwa Chileshe, noted the remarkable growth of the Mika Tennis Championships over the past five years, attracting participants from around the world. As the nation approaches its 59th Independence Day celebration, Chileshe emphasized the positive aspects of sports, including physical health benefits, economic impact, and fostering unity among diverse communities. Chileshe delivered these remarks during the opening ceremony of the 2023 Mika Tennis Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Lusaka from 21st to 24th October at the Lusaka Tennis Club. The tournament has attracted 120 players from 10 different countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Angola, and Swaziland. Furthermore, Stephen Mulenga, the Chief Executive Officer of the Mika Group of Companies, highlighted the fundamental role of sports in human development, cultural enrichment, global unity, and economic progress. At the same event, Lighton Musonda, President of the Zambia Tennis Association, expressed the association's commitment to partnering with other organizations to support the tournament in the coming years.
