The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has Unveiled the second swimmer at the incoming Trinbago commonwealth youth games Jade Phiri. 17-year-old Jade Phiri is a Zambian medalist with many other accolades to her name and has been featured in many local and international Championships. Jade has shared that she learned how to swim when she was only 2 years old but only started swimming competitively at the age of 8. She grew up in a family of Swimmers who were her source of motivation. "Both my parents swam as did both my siblings, so I was always around pools and an atmosphere of swimmers. I used to go to swimming galas, and I was always amazed by the dedication and discipline of the swimmers. I always knew it was something I wanted to do She said. Phiri is honored to have represented Zambia at several regional and international events including the 2022 Commonwealth Games at age 16 years, which was a tremendous achievement. "While at these Games. I knew I had to do my best and the outcome will handle itself. Ultimately winning my heart, and walking away with a national age group record, I was incredibly proud to raise Zambia’s flag high. I will strive to continue to do so," She has disclosed. Despite her young age, she has also represented Zambia at numerous CANA Zone IV and III Swimming Championships each year from the age of 10, where she won her first medal, a silver! "I also competed at the Region 5 Youth Games in Lilongwe Malawi, where I won a silver and bronze individual medal," She has added. She now looks forward to the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad this year where she aims to improve further and showcase all the hard work I have been putting in.
