A momentous occasion is set to begin as the Under 20 Chess Individual National Championship kicks off at the prestigious Fairview Hotel in Lusaka. This groundbreaking competition has drawn the participation of 53 exceptionally talented players hailing from five provinces: Copperbelt, Luapula, Lusaka, Southern, and Western. Among this impressive contingent, 12 players are young women, demonstrating the increasing diversity and inclusivity within the chess community, while 41 are young men, all poised for fierce competition. The battles on the chessboard will rage on until October 8, 2023, as these young prodigies vie for supremacy and the honor of being crowned national champions. This championship holds particular significance, serving as the platform for selecting representatives who will go on to compete in the Under 20 African Championship. This continental showdown is scheduled to take place in Mauritania, spanning from the 4th to the 12th of December 2023. It promises to be an opportunity for these promising talents to shine on the international stage, carrying the hopes of their nation with them.
