On the weekend, OYDC Zambia welcomed several Paralympic athletes who were attending trials for the incoming continental Tournament. The National Paralympic (NPCZ) Committee of Zambia has embarked on conducting trials to select athletes who can form a team to represent Zambia at the Paralympic Games in Ghana later this year. The Ghana Paralympic games are scheduled to take place in the final Quarter of the year in September 2023, which will see athletes compete in both track and field events. NPCZ General Secretary Moses Chishimba has said that the trials will be done from OYDC Zambia and will be done every weekend as several athletes are welcome to participate as the national team is being formed. Chishimba further disclosed that Ghana games will be used as qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Para games in France. Moses has therefore appealed to the corporate bodies and other stakeholders to support athletes and the committee stating that this will be the only way to motivate athletes who take part in these games. Some of the sports codes Zambia is expected to take part in while in Ghana include; Para powerlifting, wheelchair basketball, and athletics among others. Meanwhile, Para powerlifting athlete Richard Lubanza says he and other athletes are looking forward to the Ghana games adding that they will ensure that they train and get to be shortlisted for the Ghana outing.
