The World Mountain and Trail Running Championships (WMTRC) is an event organized jointly by the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU), the International Trail Running Association (ITRA), and the World Mountain Running Association. The running trail is coordinated by the international World Athletics Association with the second edition tagged 'Innsbruck-Stubai' of the WMTRC with the first edition being first held in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2022. The WMTRC combines mountain running and trails running in a single, high-class mountain and trail running event to offer athletic action of the highest level. Zambia is among the 68 countries that are taking part in this year's challenging running trail alongside Turkey, Lebanon, Brazil, China, Ukraine, and Chile among others. Apart from Zambia, Only three other African countries are taking part in this year's trials and including Kenya, Uganda, and Equatorial Guinea. The World Mountain and Trail Running Championship is not yet popular after being launched in 2022 hence less number of African Countries are taking part.
