Meet Innocent Mano, a Chess player from Luwingu. He recently participated in the Schools and Youth Chess Championship 2023 at Olympic Youth Development Center in Lusaka. He won Bronze in the U18 category and is now a national team player in his age category, and remains an inspiration to his community in the Northern Province. In an interview with Zed Sport this morning, Innocent Mano said that he aims to be a grant master one day and represent the country at a continental level. The 18-year-old has remained passionate despite having financial challenges participating in various chess tournaments, especially all Lusaka-based tournaments. "I have the zeal to participate in various tournaments but finances have been a challenge to me, lodging fees and transportation fees become a challenge but I get support from well-wishers," He has disclosed. Innocent has thanked the Chess Federation of Zambia for putting up consistent and inclusive tournaments for the youths to participate in where he has been given the chance to play in the national team. "I aim to be the best and ensure that I don't take this opportunity for granted as I remain a source of motivation to my community," He adds. Mano wishes to take part in more National tournaments which are mostly hosted in Lusaka and wants to continue working hard so that he becomes the champion. "I can proudly say that being selected to in the U-18 National team is one of the things I dreamt of and I wish to do more," He has added.
