Chipolopolo defender Aime Mabika made his fourth consecutive start for Toronto FC in their MLS game against Orlando City SC, but things did not go according to plan for the towering Zambian defender. Mabika had to be substituted just 17 minutes into the game with an injury, and his side went on to concede two goals in the second half. Mabika had struggled for minutes in recent months, but he has been involved in Toronto FC's last five games. He came on as a substitute in his side's 3-0 defeat to New York FC and has since started four games in a row for the Canadian side. Mabika was unable to report for national team duty in May when he was named in the squad for Zambia's crucial AFCON qualifiers match against Ivory Coast at home. Although his Zambian passport was made available just a few days before the encounter, he could not manage to join camp due to a family issue. Coach Avram Grant has always emphasized that his selection is based on a player playing enough football with their club. This could be the reason why Mabika has been missing out on national team call-ups. With Mabika now injured, his chances of being called up for Zambia's upcoming World Cup qualifiers and Africa Cup of Nations are in jeopardy. The defender will be hoping that the injury is not serious and that he can return to action soon.
