10th May 2023, Former football player for the Zambia National Football Team, Nchimunya Mweetwa, was appointed to the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone VI Safeguarding Committee as a member. The appointment is effective immediately and will run until 2025. The ANOCA Zone VI Safeguarding Committee is responsible for serving in an advisory capacity to the ANOCA Zone VI Executive Board, including mentoring and educating athletes, entourages, and coaches on abuse and harassment. The committee is chaired by Colonel Botsang Tshenyego President of Botswana NOC, representing the ANOCA Zone VI Executive Board. Mweetwa's extensive knowledge and expertise in matters related to safeguarding are expected to be valuable assets to the committee. His appointment is a true reflection of his dedication, passion, and commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for athletes. Apart from his new appointment, Mweetwa is also an IOC Believe in Sports Ambassador. The IOC Believe that Sports Ambassadors are active or retired athletes, coaches, or referees committed to raising awareness about competition manipulation toward their fellow athletes and their entourage. Mweetwa was trained by the Olympic Movement Unit on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competition and supports and works directly with his respective National Olympic Committee (NOC) and/or International Sports Federation (IF) in their prevention efforts against competition manipulation. Mweetwa is also a member of the Safe Sports Commission of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia, which highlights his dedication to athlete welfare and safety. Mweetwa's appointment to the ANOCA Zone VI Safeguarding Committee is a significant achievement and will undoubtedly have a positive impact on safeguarding athletes and creating a safer sports environment.
