Zambia's struggles have intensified as they conceded two goals in the first 45 minutes against Spain, leaving them in a dire situation. They need a win to have any chance of progressing to the next round of the competition, and their hopes now hang by a thread. From the very beginning, Spain dominated possession and quickly pushed into Zambia's 18-yard box just 30 seconds after kick-off. It didn't take long for the European nation to capitalize on their early dominance. In the 7th minute, Teresa Abelleira unleashed a well-taken shot from 25 yards out, beating Zambia's goalkeeper Eunice Sakala, who failed to make any significant attempt to save the goal. Continuing to apply pressure on the World Cup debutants, Spain found success again in the 10th minute, with Jennifer Hermoso securing the second goal of the match, making it 2-0 for Spain. Despite the early setbacks, Zambia managed to regain some composure as the first half progressed. They were able to supply some balls to their captain, Barbra Banda, in the attacking third. However, she lacked support from her teammates in the final third, making it difficult for Zambia to convert their possessions into meaningful opportunities. Unfortunately for Zambia, they faced an injury concern, leading coach Bruce Mwape to make a forced substitution. Midfielder Susan Banda had to be replaced by Mary Wilombe, and Xiomara Mapepa was also substituted for Avel Chitundu. On a brighter note, Zambia showed a much-improved performance compared to their previous game against Japan, during which they failed to make any goal attempts. In the first half against Spain, they managed to create three goal-scoring opportunities and earned two corner kicks. As the second half approaches, the hope for Zambia is that they can grow into the game and use this valuable experience on the world stage.
