An upcoming chess event promises a day of strategic moves and exciting gameplay, as the Lusaka Province Chess Association (LPCA) collaborates with HotSpot to present the LPCA-HotSpot Rapid Open and Madalas Tournament. Set to take place on Sunday, August 27th, 2023, at Ideal Park Mall, this unique tournament is designed to engage chess enthusiasts of all ages. The spotlight of this competition is on individuals aged 40 and above, but the event also welcomes younger players to participate in a separate youth category. With a commitment to promoting the intellectual sport of chess, the organizers have set the stage for a thrilling day of competition and camaraderie. The tournament features three distinct sections, catering to different skill levels and age groups: Open, Female, and Madalas. The Open section, characterized by intense gameplay, will comprise 8 rounds of competition. The Madalas section, designed for participants aged 40 and above, will involve 7 rounds of gameplay. In both the Open and Female sections, players will have a time control of 10 minutes plus a 2-second increment per move. The Madalas section, however, will feature a time control of 10 minutes without any increment. One of the standout features of this event is the inclusivity it promotes. All adult players are eligible to participate, further emphasizing the organizers' commitment to fostering a diverse and vibrant chess community. The participation fees are £100 for males and £70 for both females and Persons With Disabilities (PWD), ensuring that everyone has a chance to be part of the competition. The tournament's starting times are set to accommodate the different sections. The Open and Ladies Sections are scheduled to kick off at 10:00 AM, while the Madalas section will begin at 2:00 PM. For those who have previously clinched victory in the LPCA Rapid tournament's open and female categories, there's good news - they enjoy free entry into this exciting event. In the spirit of fair play, prize money will be evenly distributed in the event of tied positions, promising an added layer of competition and anticipation. To ensure that the Female section maintains its own competitive momentum, a minimum of 6 female players is required for the section to stand, and for the prizes to be awarded. For registration and further details, prospective participants can reach out to Mr. Arthur Mwenya (Treasurer) or Maybin Chinama (Secretary General). It's important to note that registration will close at 9:00 AM for the Open and Ladies sections, and at 12:00 PM for the Madalas section. Late registrations will not be entertained, so players are encouraged to sign up within the stipulated time frame. The LPCA-HotSpot Rapid Open and Madalas Tournament promises a day filled with strategic brilliance, community engagement, and the thrill of competition. Whether you're a seasoned chess player or new to the game, mark your calendars for August 27th and join in the excitement at Ideal Park Mall.
