Badminton Zambia (BZ) is pleased with the election of its president Kingsley Mulenga as Badminton Confederation of Africa's (BCA) vice-president. BZ general secretary Juma Muwowo has said that the election of Mulenga is a milestone that will greatly help drive the sport forward because of this huge stake. Mulenga was elected during the BCA annual general meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia over the weekend where many BCA bodies had gathered. "Badminton Zambia president Kingsley Mulenga is the new Badminton Confederation of Africa, vice president. This is another milestone in the sports fraternity as we continue to fly the Zambian flag at various stages in sports," Juma disclosed. Muwowo said having someone at the helm of the continental body meant that he would help to drive Zambia's developmental agenda forward. He later added that BZ is happy that the continent recognized Mulenga's efforts and the contribution that he has made to the sport. "Having our person at the top of the BCA means a lot because we will now have a voice at the continental body," He added. However, we are also in recognition that his role is for the entire continent. We are happy that the continent can recognize the efforts he puts in hence voting for him as the deputy president," He said. Previously, Mulenga served on the BCA executive committee as a council member and headed the competition and events committee. Mulenga, who was the only challenger, polled 54 votes to unseat incumbent Amine Zobiri of Algeria, who got 18 votes, and would serve for a four-year term. Tukebana Bau of Seychelles retained his position as president having gone unopposed.
