About 40 weightlifters are expected to compete in the K60,000-rich 2023 The Copperbelt Classic Body Building competition is set for Ravens Country Club in Kitwe tomorrow. The Copperbelt Classic is one of its kind that will ensure inclusiveness in that Province due to most activities being done in Lusaka. The event is meant to promote talent in young people and separate them from negative peer pressure from their friends. In an interview yesterday, World Fitness Federation of Zambia (WFFZ) media coordinator Haggai Sinkolongo said preparations had reached an advanced stage with the competitors ready to battle for honors. The budget of the competition is about K60, 000 and about 40 musclemen will compete in this event. We are using this event way of empowering our youths through sport and in this case bodybuilding. "Doing so will ensure that they are not used as political tools or cadres. And will use the competition to educate athletes, especially young people on the dangers of using prohibited substances as well as drug abuse," He said. Meanwhile, Jackson Banda who is a former weightlifter has said that his bodybuilding journey was cut short because of fewer activities that were rolled out in rural areas. "Ndinensansa saana( I am so happy) that some of these activities are also rolled out in the outskirts of Lusaka unlike in the past where we had no Competitions despite having the interest to compete," Banda disclosed. The contestants will compete in bodybuilding, bikini, fitness model, and physically challenged categories.
