Prince Mulenga was the best-performing Zambian at the just-ended Kenya Open Chess Championship after finishing in sixth position. After moving into the joint second position in round seven, Mulenga saw his chances for a top-five finish vanish when he lost the eight-round battle to under-18 Indian International Master (IM), Aditya Samant. The tournament ran from 6th to 10th April 2023, and the final round was in Nairobi. Mulenga rediscovered his impressive form to outwit Ugandan Kizza Faruk Fauza Karim to finish sixth with 7 points. Meanwhile, American Grand Master (GM) Timur Gareyev won the tournament with eight wins and a draw to collect.
