Coach Ian Stephenson is a Zambian swimming coach with vast experience in swimming and a lot of medals to his name with many appearances in Africa. "Having been on the other side of the fence and in the pool, in my primary years, representing Zambia as a junior swimmer in various African Countries. I’ve been coaching since I was at Rhodes University, during my 4th and 5th year I was also a student tutor at St. Andrew’s College in Grahamstown South Africa," He said. I have been traveling with the National Swim team since 2012 and have had the privilege and honor of working with numerous student-athletes that have competed on various regional, continental, and international stages. Stephen has disclosed that Commonwealth Wealth Youth Games is a great platform for young aspiring superstars to fly Zambia’s flag to the world. "Their ability to have a dream and chase it wholeheartedly has served them well and will continue to as they become the champions they are so diligently working to become. To all aspiring swimmers; all you have to do is dream big, work smart, and you too, like Zach and Jade can stand tall, poised, determined, and courageous to be the best that they can be, against the best from other countries," He adds. Coach Ian has said that some Administrators and fellow Zambians sadly, seem to fix medals. "This mindset needs to change because Athletes are expected to do their best - no more, no less. Medals do not define the success of an athlete. Just being there and having the courage to compete at such a high standard, commands all our respect. Let’s remain proud of all of them unconditionally," He has emphasized. Stephenson has further called on all stakeholders to rally behind the Athletes and offer the necessary support that they need.
