Zambia Athletics (ZA) president Elias Mpondela says he takes full responsibility for team Zambia's poor performance at the just-ended Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) 2023 Combined Under- 18 and 20 Championships held at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. Mpondela has also admitted that hosting the championship has been the biggest school in his 24 years as ZA president. Additionally, Mpondela wants former 400m hurdles world champion Samuel Matete to help groom future world champions. In an interview Conducted yesterday, Mpondela said while the poor performance and organization of the championship was a collective responsibility, he would take the blame for being the head of athletics in the country. He explained that several reasons led to the poor performance which were beyond him as president. He said it was not possible to produce medal-winning athletes without preparing them adequately and camping. "I am disappointed and I have spoken to my coaches and you know when such things happen, as leader of the the organization you take the complete blame and I take the responsibility having heavily in charge of the said," He added Photo Credit-Matete
