In a recent chess showdown in South Africa, International Master (IM) Gillian Bwalya showcased his prowess as he concluded his last round fixture to secure an eighth-place finish at the Mojo Extravaganza Open Chess Championship. Bwalya's strategic moves led to a victory against South Africa's IM Jan Karsten, helping him amass a total of six points in the competition. The tournament drew in a field of 230 players, making his performance even more remarkable. Egyptian Grandmaster Adham Fawzy emerged as the champion with an impressive tally of nine points, solidifying his dominance throughout the event. Meanwhile, South Africa's IM Banele Mhango secured the second position with 7.5 points, putting up a strong fight. FIDE Master Prince Mulenga, who engaged in an intense battle throughout the tournament, recorded three wins and five draws. Unfortunately, he lost the last round tie to Fawzy, ultimately accumulating 5.5 points and finishing in the 13th position.
