Phase 1 of the Zambia Under-20 national team trials kicked off today, featuring an open section with 38 players. Among the participants is the newly recruited top seed from India, Sharon Rafael, who has recently joined the Zambian Chess Federation and holds a rating of 2103. In the opening round, Rafael will occupy board one. He brings with him a wealth of experience, having competed in numerous prestigious tournaments in India and around the world. Notably, Rafael achieved victory in the Abu Dhabi Rapid Tournament, which included 65 international participants. Additionally, he has demonstrated his skill by defeating a player rated over 2300 in one of his previous tournaments.
