Zambia Women's Karate national team's Kumite Coach, Nayombe Muliyunda has embarked on a program to use Karate to help young women and girls access education. Muliyunda, who is also the Head of Titans Jindokai Karate Dojo, currently has 45 students from underprivileged families in the Chibolya compound who she is supporting with school requirements. In an interview Conducted on Tuesday, 25th April 2023, Nayombe said that Karate could be used as a form of discipline to be impacted the lives of young girls. Further, she added that for the less privileged children to qualify for school support, they undergo Karate training which offers discipline. “Karate is not only about fighting, there are other factors such as discipline and hard work. Aside from Karate, we want our girls to be academically sound and do well in school.” She added. Muliyunda now hopes to expand her initiative of empowering young girls through sports by partnering with willing stakeholders and other Karate Associations. In October 2022, Muliyunda became the first woman to be voted into the Martial Arts Federation executive in Zambia. Photo Credi-ZKK
