26th April 2023, Zambia Athletics (ZA) president Elias Mpondela has confirmed that His Excellency, President Hakainde Hichilema's presence at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Under-18 and Under-20 Championship's official opening on Saturday is an indication of Government's effort to support all Sports. Zambia's Head of State is scheduled to open the event, which is expected to have 54 countries competing with over 700 Athletes. "Having the President officiate is incredibly motivating. It is a posture that indicates that this new dawn Government takes sport as a business activity. Meanwhile, Athletes from all 54 countries have started arriving, with Ethiopian runners being the first. World Athletics president Sebastian Coe is also in the country and other delegates are here to support the CAA Junior Championship. The long-awaited competition will run from 29th April to 4th May 2023 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, with Zambia having about 95 runners. Photo Credit- Chellah Tukuta
