In the world of Zambian chess, there's happiness. From the outstanding performances at the just-ended Chess Championships in Cairo, Egypt, National Chess Hero Tumelo Lwenyeka and the remarkable youth team deserve accolades. This recognition is a tribute to their unwavering determination and exceptional performance at the 2023 African Youth Chess Championship held in Cairo, Egypt. Despite not winning any medals, Zambia proudly extends its applause. The championship witnessed the distribution of 36 medals, and here's how they were claimed: Egypt, with its impressive performance, seized a total of 25 medals, 9 of which were gold. Botswana demonstrated their effort with 2 medals, one gold and one silver. Kenya, with their talent on display, took home 2 medals, featuring 1 gold and 1 bronze. Algeria showcased their chess skills, securing 5 medals, including 4 silver and 1 bronze. Madagascar celebrated with a single gold, and Uganda made its mark with a well-earned silver. Looking forward, there's a realization that Zambia is on the right path in the world of chess. The Chess Federation of Zambia (CFZ) can gain valuable lessons from this competition, particularly from countries that excelled.
