In an attempt to raise the country's medal count at the forthcoming Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Under-18 and Under-20 Games, the Zambia Athletics (ZA) has added veteran coach, Felix Mbuye to the national technical staff. ZA general secretary Davison Mung'ambata has said that Felix was one of the coaches who had been brought to the national team fold to maximize the medal chances. 24th April 2023, the ZA chief executive officer said there were several coaches brought in just to make sure Zambia does well at the continental event to be hosted at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. "We have put together a teaching team of the young and old and it will be about getting the best out of the Zambian athletics brains and it will also be like passing of the baton," Mung'ambata said. Mung'ambata said the national team technical bench also has tested coaches like Sydney Mushipe and many more from the service teams like the Zambia Amy, Zambia Police, and Zambia National Service among others. Another one to add is 80-year-old Samuel Mubangalala, a Zambian super-athlete of his time who still holds the national record in the decathlon. Arguably, Mbuye is Zambia's most successful athletics coach having produced some of the best runners Zambia has ever seen including national 100m and 200m records holder Sydney Siame from his Chingola base. The CAA combined under-18 and under-20 championship will be held in Ndola and is expected to run from this Saturday, April 29 to Wednesday, 3rd May. Mung 'ambata said that Zambia will host 100 athletes in the Various track and field events but added that a few fields are not yet ready. Photo Credit- NOCZ
