Zambia's boxing team may not have come home with a gold medal from the 2023 World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, but their impressive campaign left fans and spectators proud and impressed. The team, consisting of three boxers, Andrew Chilata, Stephen Zimba, and Patrick Chinyemba, along with Coaches Wisdom Mudenda and Kennedy Kanyanta, fought with incredible spirit and determination, making it all the way to the quarterfinals for two out of the three Boxers. Their impressive run at the tournament was capped off by a tough loss for lightweight boxer Andrew Chilata, who was defeated by Cuba's Alvarez Borges Erislandy via a unanimous points decision. Despite the loss, the Zambian delegation can hold their heads high knowing that they have achieved something special. It has been 34 years since a Zambian boxing team made it to the quarterfinals of the Boxing World Championships and six years since their last appearance at the World Championships. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that got eliminated in the quarter-finals. The boxers are now looking to the African Boxing Championships which is scheduled for later this year, the focus will be on securing slots for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Zambian team's recent success has given an indication that they have great potential to make it to Paris 2024. The National Olympic Committee of Zambia has offered solidarity to the three participants who did their very best at the ongoing World Boxing tournament. "We would like to take this opportunity to applaud and thank the Zambian delegation for their incredible efforts and for representing the country with pride and passion," NOCZ has said. #ZambiaKuchalo Photo Credit-IBA
