Catherine Musonda, the second-choice goalkeeper for the Zambia women's national team, is ready to step up and fill the void left by Hazel Nali, who was injured and dropped from the World Cup squad. Musonda, who plays her club football in Kazakhstan, has been training with the team in Hamilton, New Zealand, and is confident that she can do a good job in Nali's absence. "The preparations are going well," Musonda said. "We aim to go far in the tournament. With Hazel Nali's injury, I'm confident that I can do well for Zambia." Musonda got her chance to prove herself in Zambia's final warm-up match against Germany, which the Copper Queens won 3-2. Musonda played well in the match, making several important saves, and she is hoping to build on that performance in the World Cup. "The game against Germany was good, but it was tough," Musonda said. "I just went into the game with one thing in mind, and that was to do my best for the team. We hope to win the first game against Japan, and we're always thinking about that in training and the hotel." Zambia will face Japan, Spain, and Costa Rica in Group C at the World Cup. The tournament kicks off on July 20, and Zambia's first match is against Japan on July 22.
