The Copper Queens have been exempted from the first round of the TotalEnergies CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2024 Qualifiers. Head coach Bruce Mwape attributed the exemption to the team's impressive performance in the 2022 WAFCON tournament, where they finished third. Mwape said, "The good performance of the team in Morocco during the Africa Cup of Nations is the reason why we were exempted. Somehow, it's a relief. It has given us time to rest after the World Cup, but even if you rest, you still need to play. The World Cup will give players confidence as we will be meeting teams that are ranked like Germany. I'm sure they are ranked second in the world, so meeting teams like that will give the players confidence." The Copper Queens will face tough opponents at the upcoming World Cup, including Japan, Spain, and Costa Rica. Their campaign kicks off on June 22nd against the 2011 World Cup winners, Japan. Following the World Cup, the Copper Queens will move on to the second round of WAFCON qualifiers, taking on the winner between Angola and Sudan.
