The Copper Queens' captain, Barbra Banda, remains undeterred despite a tough start to Zambia's maiden World Cup campaign. After a disheartening 5-0 loss against Japan, Banda vows her team is prepared to take on Spain, who have emerged as favorites after a convincing 3-0 victory over Costa Rica. Addressing the media ahead of the crucial match, Banda acknowledged Spain's talented roster but emphasized that Zambia is focusing on its performance. "We are not looking at individuals, but we just want to perform to our best level," she stated with determination. The humbling defeat to Japan served as a valuable lesson for the team, and Banda affirmed that they remain motivated despite the setback. "In the previous game, we learned something. Going into the next game, we just hope to implement a good mentality," she explained. Zambia, participating in their first-ever World Cup, harbors hope of advancing to the knockout stage, a monumental achievement for the team. Banda expressed the team's unwavering spirit, saying, "We are still motivated as a team. We encourage each other to work as a cohesive unit. We believe we have a chance to go to the next round." However, the Copper Queens will face Spain without their first-choice goalkeeper, Hazel Nali, who is sidelined and not part of the team with an ACL injury. Additionally, the absence of Grace Chanda has posed further challenges. The second-choice keeper will also miss the Spain encounter due to yellow cards received in the previous match. Despite these setbacks, Banda expressed confidence in the replacement players, stating, "We trust and believe they can still deliver." Looking forward to the tough Spain encounter, Banda reassured fans that Zambia is ready for the challenge and determined to put forth their best performance. "We expect a tough game against Spain tomorrow, but we are up for the challenge. We just have to do our best," she concluded with optimism.
