28th April 2023, marked the opening ceremony for the Junior Athletic Championships which kicked off today at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. Over 700 Athletes have gathered to battle it out for different sports disciplines that are set forthcoming during the championship period. In a statement shared via his Facebook page, Zambia Republican President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema has quoted: Fellow Citizens, today we celebrated the opening ceremony of the Second Edition of the combined Under 18 and 20 Confederation of African Athletes, at the Levy Patrick Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola. Young athletes from across Africa have come together in Ndola with the common goal of achieving sports excellence in track and field while embodying the values of brotherhood and respect toward their opponents. It is with great pride that we acknowledge that among these young athletes, there will be future world champions who will make Africa proud. We encouraged them to continue using sports as a means of setting high standards, raising expectations, and building character, all of which will contribute to the growth and development of our continent in many areas. As a government, we remain committed to supporting all sports on an equal basis. We strongly believe that there are no minor sports and will continue to provide equal support to all. Finally, we expressed our gratitude to the Confederation of African Athletics for choosing Zambia as a host and wish them success in their future endeavors. Photo Credit-HH
