After facing uninspiring results in the fifth round, Zambian chess players demonstrated impressive performances in the sixth round at the Africa Youth Chess Championship in Cairo, Egypt. In a noteworthy turnaround, all Zambian players managed to secure victories in their respective games, with only one exception. In the boys' under-10 open section, the top contender, Tumelo Lwenyeka, rebounded from his fifth-round loss by defeating Egyptian player Abdallah Omar Mahmoud. This victory propelled Lwenyeka into the second position with five points, trailing leader Adam Mohamed of Egypt by just half a point. Lwenyeka was slated to compete against Hamza Ahmed Omar of Egypt in a critical match on board two. Two other Zambian players in the boys' under-10 open section, Ruaraidh Gillies Luka and Devan Shaurya, also achieved victories in their games. Luka secured a win against Heman Mohamed from Benin, while Shaurya outwitted Patrick Adala of Kenya. In the boys' under-18 open section, Joseph Handiya made a strong comeback, defeating Musa Munyere from Botswana. Handiya's victory propelled him to the eighth position with four points, trailing the leader, Candidate Master (CM) Hamed Wafa of Egypt, by just one point. The Zambian players are displaying their resilience and determination as they continue to compete in the championship.
