Thursday, 11th May 2023, Zambia national boxing Coach Wisdom Mudenda expressed gratitude to all participants who fought at the just-ended World Boxing tournament in Uzbekistan. Coach Wisdom has described the Uzbekistan meeting as a good experience and exposure platform for the boxers to acquaint themselves with the international standard of matches. He later advised boxers to remain focused as this will be a stepping stone to greatness. Zambia sent three boxers to the International Boxing Association World Championships lightweight Andrew Chilata and flyweight Patrick Chinyemba reached the quarter-finals while welterweight Stephen Zimba was eliminated in the first round. In an interview, Mudenda said that Tashkent was a good phase for the boxers to also improve their abilities and give us a stepping stone to bid for an international tournament in the incoming tournaments. "Of late we have participated in a good number of international tournaments where we have won medals. At the level the boxers are now, they need such competition. They need to face the best boxers in the world. I think it was a good experience for the boys," He said. The next major assignment will be the African Championship in Cameroon next month. Mudenda also lamented the poor officiating at the World Championship where two Zambians and one Ghanaian reached the quarter-finals Out of 23 African countries. Photo Credit-OYDC
