The Maheba Refugee Settlement Camp in Kalumbila District, situated in Zambia's North-Western Province, made history by serving as the venue for the inaugural 2023 Inclusive Sports Festival. This momentous occasion marked a significant expansion of the event, which now encompasses three different locations across the country. The festival was a testament to the spirit of unity and inclusivity, drawing together more than 200 school students and 100 young athletes, aged between 5 and 15 years. These young athletes are part of the Judo for Peace project under the guidance of the Judo Association of Zambia (JAZ). Commemorating the overarching theme of "Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Inclusivity & Environmental Sustainability," the festival was the first in a series of three events, with the others taking place in North-Western, Livingstone, and Lusaka. Beyond the realm of sports, this festival sought to empower young athletes by providing them with valuable educational materials. These included books, pencils, and sharpeners, all distributed to the athletes through the efforts of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) Marketing and Finance Commission. This holistic approach aimed to nurture not only physical prowess but also intellectual growth among the participants, fostering a sense of unity and environmental consciousness.
