The 2023 NIF Inclusive Sport Festival commenced in the Maheba Refugee Settlement, Kalumbila District, Northwestern Province of Zambia, marking the first segment of the three-part event. Themed "Unity in Diversity: Celebrating inclusivity and environmental sustainability." The festival saw the participation of 100 young athletes aged 5 to 15, affiliated with the Judo For Peace Project under the Judo Association of Zambia (JAZ). Additionally, more than 200 school students joined the event, engaging in various activities such as judo demonstrations, matches, poems, and cultural performances by local residents within the settlement. The young athletes were also provided with educational materials, including books, pencils, and sharpeners, courtesy of the NOCZ Marketing and Fundraising Commission. The festival will continue in Livingstone, with an event for differently abled children scheduled for 28th September 2023. Notable attendees included Boniface Kambikambi, Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ); Prof. Prosper N’gandu, Commissioner for Refugees; Frank Siatwinda, Guest of Honour and District Administration Officer for Kalumbila District; Mabvuto N’guni, General Secretary of JAZ; Henry Mfula, General Treasurer of JAZ; Pablo Pablo, Head of Solwezi Office; Martin Mwanawina, Head Teacher of Maheba Boarding School; Castrol Singelegele, Refugee Officer for Maheba Refugee Camp; Mirriam Shambweka from the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services; and staff members from NOCZ and JAZ. This festival has received support for seven consecutive years from the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports, with active involvement from all of its partners in Zambia.
