On 10th August 2023, the Judo Association of Zambia (JAZ) General Secretary, Mabvuto Nguni, had a significant encounter with Mr. Ben, the visionary behind the Village of Hope organization. This remarkable initiative is dedicated to providing care and support to orphans and vulnerable children, alongside running the Hope School. The primary purpose of their recent meeting was to delve into the potential introduction of judo in rural areas at the foundation's base in Chisamba District, situated within the heart of the Central Province. During an exclusive interview with Zed Sport earlier today, Mr. Nguni emphasized the urgent requirement for judo to reach remote areas, particularly in the Central Province. He passionately expressed the belief that nurturing judo talent in these regions could significantly elevate Zambia's prominence in the sport. "We are determined to extend our outreach to the rural corners of Zambia. This will lay the groundwork for discovering fresh talent across the nation, fostering exceptional athletes capable of representing our country on both regional and continental stages," he explained. Mr. Nguni went on to highlight that while Lusaka boasts a strong sporting presence, owing to its array of facilities, he aspired for a more equitable distribution of sports opportunities. His aspiration is for the entire country, including its rural landscapes, to benefit from such initiatives.
