Seventeen-year-old Vanessa Matende, Zambia's national female champion, has set her sights on winning a medal at the African Games. Notably, she achieved a historic milestone in July by becoming Zambia's first female cyclist to compete in the Youth Commonwealth Games held in Trinidad and Tobago. Vanessa Matende was among seven Zambian athletes who proudly participated in the 2023 Youth Commonwealth Games. Her father, Lewis Matende, a cyclist himself who also doubles as her coach, is committed to ensuring she receives adequate preparation for the Games.
