Obert Chembe and Vanessa Mutende, both representing Red Arrows Cycling, emerged as the undisputed champions of the 2023 National Championships Road Race, showcasing their dominance from the race's inception to the thrilling finish line located at State Lodge. In the fiercely contested 200-kilometer elite men's race, Chembe exhibited his wealth of experience gained from his participation in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. He defeated 45 riders, completing the race course in an impressive five hours, 26 minutes, and 10 seconds. His closest rival, Leo Butt from Nakambala Cycling Club, finished 13 seconds behind Chembe. Michael Olokani, representing Kansanshi Cycling, secured the third spot with a time of five hours, 26 minutes, and 14 seconds. In an interview following the demanding race, Chembe acknowledged the race's toughness and complained about the weather conditions. However, he expressed his satisfaction in making his sponsors proud and credited his victory to his effort in winning the game, which was heavily contested. Chembe emphasised the growing competition within the cycling sport, with rival riders providing him with a difficult game. He recognised the efforts of fellow cyclists and commended the cycling clubs, stressing that consistency is key in raising the level of competition.
